Best Practices On Instagram: Disney Baby Edition!

Welcome to the Disney Baby team! Disney Baby is a niche brand that falls under the Disney umbrella. Just last week, we reached 1 million followers on Instagram and it’s time for you to learn our magical social media strategy that got us there!

Instagram is a purely visual platform, so we always post high-quality and aesthetically pleasing content. Below, you’ll see our one-million followers post and our first day of February post, which are both great examples of visually appealing content. Notice both photos are colorful, well lit, nicely spaced, and relevant, all while being brand appropriate.

The mock-post you see below is an example of a low-quality image. The photo is grainy, poorly lit, and out of focus, therefore it would not meet our company standards for an Instagram post.

Please keep in mind, our Instagram videos, IGTV posts, and reels must also consist of stunning visuals. This screenshot shows off our very first reel, which is on brand, fun, and excellent quality.

Disney Baby thrives off of user-generated content. We encourage our followers to post pictures of their Disney babies using our hashtag, #DisneyBaby, for a chance to be featured on our account. We post once every day on our account and UGC makes up approximately 80% of our posts. Always remember to credit the creators by tagging them in the caption. You can find some great examples of how to seamlessly tag creators below.

Just as important as our high-quality imagery, is our social media brand voice. Disney Baby is a part of the Disney brand, therefore it is cruical that our voice on social media be consistent across our platforms and match other Disney-owned pages. We consider our social media voice to be friendly, polite, positive, and of course…magical! As you can see in the examples below, quoting Disney movies, songs, etc. in our captions is highly encouraged. We use hashtags when appropriate, usually only one or two, and encourage our followers to use them on their photos as well. We also include at least one, relevant emoji in every caption. Did you notice the Snow White apple and enchanted rose emojis?

Along with encouraging our followers to use our hashtags, we also want to lead them to our website so they can purchase our products. When a post contains a product that we sell, there should always be a call-to-action with purchasing details, as a courtesy to our followers. The captions below execute this flawlessly as the directions are integrated seamlessly into the post, while still being direct. On the right is a great example of including a call-to-action on a UGC photo.

Another huge part of our brand voice is how we respond to comments on our posts. While we do not have to respond to every single comment, it’s important for us to help our guests and engage with our followers as much as possible. Try to answer every comment that asks a question, especially if it is in reference to one of our products. In the first example, our follower is asking where to find one of our books in Canada. While the product is not available in Canada from our site, we still want to be courteous and find out where our guest can find the item. The response is direct, while still including a friendly “hi”! In the second example, notice the follow up that occurred even after the question was answered. Another follower had trouble using our link, so we provided them with more details and offered them an alternative. All while remaining true to our brand voice.

One final best practice we stress across our Disney brands is commenting on other Disney posts! By posting a comment on other Disney-owned accounts, we are advertising our name to potential new followers that we already know are fans of Disney. Plus, it’s fun!

Social media is not easy, but with these best Instagram practices, you are sure to create some magical Disney Baby content!
